Top 3 Thursday …

Sometimes, a Blog Carnival catches my eye, so here goes:

What are the Top 3 reasons why you blog?

I’ve only just started blogging.  My reasons for starting are spelled out here.  Here are the reasons I keep doing it:

3. My readers.  I’m gaining a few regular readers who aren’t family, don’t know the players involved personally, but still are interested in what’s going on in our lives.  It’s weird, because I didn’t start blogging in order to be read.  But every time I get a comment from a name I don’t recognize, or see a face I don’t know in the “followers” section, my heart skips a beat.  It means someone out there is thinking of us, sharing our struggles, rejoicing in our joys.  Just knowing that does serve to keep me going.

2. My family .  Many of my family members are out of the state, don’t know what’s going on in my life, and need a way to keep it touch.  While I try to send emails, and have tried websites in the past, spewing random blogs seems to be working for now as a way to keep them appraised.  There is so much going on that it’s easier this way.

1. My Sanity.  The number one reason I blog is still the same as it was when I started.  I have too much going on … and too much is negative.  Blogging gives me a way to focus on the good things, and to let go of the bad things.  It relieves stress.  It makes me smile.  It’s great that others like it, it’s great my family can see it, but I’d still do it if none of that were true.

Blogging helps me survive … straight up.

I can't believe I have TWO dads playing along today... you've made my day! I started my blog when I was going through marital counseling (post-partum counseling in disguise, as I was too scared to go on my own); it WAS therapy!

Same here on the negative one. Really who would ever think in the repo business that anything could be negative. Blogging helps me not be so much of an ass to T and the C's

I like that list and would agree with it. Though I do admit to a growing sense of narcissism that plays a bigger part than I would normally let on

Hi Doug, blogging in order to focus on the good rather than the bad seems to be a good enough reason to continue as any. While its true that blogging for oneself, similar to keeping a journal, is the mindset that many of us have when we start, I find that knowing that there are readers helps to keep us writing regularly. With so many blogs out there, I'm somewhat amazed when someone visits mine and takes the time to comment. For me, the feedback enriches the experience. Ray
