Gaming again

So … At the behist of my sister, I’m starting up a Shadowrun game … yes, some of us still play our games around a tabletop.  Actually, we’ll be playing around a virtual tabletop, over microphones, using computers to communicate.  It’s much easier for everyone than commuting.  We’ll see how the experiment works.

So, being as we’ll be playing online, it made sense to store our characters online.

Loving my Nook

I normally don’t brag on my toys, but I’m having so much fun with this one I thought I’d share.

A while back a friend of mine bought their daughter a Nook Color and she (their daughter) has been loving it.  We heard about it enough that my wife started to want one for herself.  I broke down and bought it, then discovered the best part: A Nook is an android device.

You can teach an old dog new tricks …

EFP News of my death has been greatly … well … slightly exaggerated.  I was in CA for an exhausting week of back to back meetings, then I got sick …

In any case, before I went to CA, I went to the optometrist.  See, I’ve been getting headaches a lot more lately, and I actually got so tired a few weeks ago that I couldn’t even focus on the book I was reading.

Expressing some feelings about KONY 2012

So … the Kony 2010 meme has left facebook and youtube, and has now attacked me from multiple directions.  I started to post a facebook status about it, but failed.  It was too long!  SO, I’m turning to my OTHER public forum, my blog.

A rose, by any other name

Would still smell as sweet.

I play WoW, and am not a goldsmith by trade ;-).  So, I’m apt to refer to what my son does as Jewelcrafting, and get him to snap at me and say “It’s called GOLDSMITHING” … complete with appropriate eye rolling.  It’s really fun!

Prayers for my Aunt

The last couple days have been hard on my extended family, and I’ve been trying to lend my hand in support.

So, tonight was Sylvia’s Girl Scout Award Ceremony.  Just thought I’d share a couple pictures:

Lent … why did it have to be Lent

So … as you know, two years ago Topher dropped a bomb on me.  It was part of why I started blogging, and blogging kept me sane.  Last weekend he dropped another bomb on me, so I started writing again.  Tonight he kept it up.  I don’t know if it’s because I’m more approachable, whether it’s just time, or what.  He actually didn’t (until he just looked over my shoulder) know I was blogging … but … damn.

The House Hates Me

So, while being shuttled off to bed early because she was a whiny little pain in the ass, Annika cried out “I like school!  The house hates me!  And I’ve been having a lot of bad things today!”

Taking Sides

So … a couple years back the local Lutheran Church lost a third of their congregation, including their pastor, due to controversy over allowing homosexuals … to serve as lay ministers, to be members, to be priests … They, understandably, took it hard.  They’ve struggled, but they’ve survived.

With friends like these, who is needing enemas …

So, I wrote almost two years ago, about my son Adam having Ulcerative Colitis.  I thought I’d follow up on that, since there has been actual progress, and recently.

Giving it another go for Lent

As I’ve stated before, I consider lent a time in my life to do some introspection, and I’ve been struggling with that this year.  This time around, I don’t know what to do with myself.  Things have been going great, and at the same time some part of me has been falling apart.  Finding balance has become a struggle, and sometimes I feel like I’ve been swinging like a pendulum from one crisis to the next.

I’m late, but that’s OK.  I’m sure God understands ;-)  This is my lenten promise: I’m going to blog, from now to Easter, each and every day.

I don’t know what to expect.  You will definitely get some updates from me and my kids … you might get musings on World of Warcraft, Yahoo!, or even my bowling scores … you may be interested, or you may be bored, but I’m going to post anyway.

Let’s see if I can survive.

My son, the jewelcrafter

Let’s start by showing off his work.  For Christmas, Jules fixed up our wedding rings:

Goodbye High School

So, between the new job, then breaking my hand (don’t ask), I haven’t been blogging in well over six months.  Now, I need to get back to it, so this is my New Year’s Resolution, and here goes with my first post:

Drop the bomb: I’m pulling my freshmen (Ethan and Topher) from the local Public High School.  Read on for more info.

Happy Birthday Annika Rose!

Annika, my first girl born in Oregon turns 7 today.

Hard to think that we’ve been in Oregon as long as we have, or that my little girl is 7.  She woke up this morning and was shrieking over the fact that she’s a year older.  It’s been a good day.

And no, I haven’t dropped off the face of the earth, or ever the blogosphere.  Just been busy as hell between the new job, 8th grade graduation, 5th grade graduation, Cub Scout Bridging, Girl Scout Bridging, my new job, Topher, Teke’s wedding and more!

I’ll get to all of that later, but I had to get on today to wish Annika a happy day!

Good Times with Old Friends

So … It’s been a busy week.  Since I started the job at Yahoo! last week, I haven’t had a moment’s rest!  So far I’ve been out with friends practically every night.  Yes, I’ve missed all my bloggy friends, and I doubt it is going to be any different this week.

I’ve visited my cousin, visited my Jr. High School girlfriend, visited old friends from dance, visited my mother-in-law … But the best experience of the week:

First Day of the Rest of My Life ...

So ... started at Yahoo! today.  You know, you forget pretty quick how much every first day is the same.  The same boring paperwork.  The same administrative snafu's ...

But I got through it.

The best part of going to CA

Next week, I start my new job at Yahoo!  I'm going to be staying at my Mother In Law's house in Richmond while training at the Santa Clara and Sunnyvale campuses over the next two weeks.  I was going to fly down, but plans have changed, and I'm driving down with Adam.  I'm going to be doing lots of things while down there ... visiting family, hanging out with friends.

So ... what is the "Best Part" ... what's the best part of driving to CA?
